Developing your family’s playbook

Spring practice is long gone. Training camp is over. Preseason came and went. And now, everybody’s playing.

Football season is in the air.

But at the center of every team is not a wide receiver’s ability to make a finger-tip catch. It’s not a linebacker’s speed around the edge to sack the quarterback. It’s not everything that the fans see. At the heart of the team is a playbook — for both the offense and the defense, the playbook is the manual for how the coaches will utilize their team’s individual talents for the maximum result. And kind of like a coach, parents (especially dads) need to have a ‘playbook’, of sorts, to be able to lead their families in a Godly way.

So, how can dads develop that winning ‘playbook’ for their family?

Drew Pittman is a professional sports agent in the NFL. He’s also a speaker, advocate for dads, and author of the book First Team Dad: Your Playbook for a Winning Family.

Pittman joined Dr. Bill Maier Live! to talk about life as a pro sports agent and how men can start developing that winning playbook for their families.

Drew says we have to start by redefining the word ‘success’:

“It’s not just business. Not just the bank account. I have no problem with people who want to be successful or financially blessed.

He says understanding success starts with understanding the deeper parts of life:

“[I] want to have a great family. I want to have a relationship with my kids. I want my wife to love, honor, and respect me.”

Highlight: redefining success

In writing First Team Dad, Drew says he hopes dads can understand and make a connection with the competitive nature of sports and how life lessons can be learned and taught through team/family collaboration and perseverance.
