Each summer hundreds of students gather in Colorado for in-depth training on Christian worldview and apologetics. Aaron Zubia is on the faculty of Summit Ministries and joins us to talk about the foundational principles of a biblical worldview, why it’s important, and how it relates to the news of the day. Listen for a wide-ranging discussion from academic freedom, to same-sex marriage, to culture and faith.

Aaron says Summit’s heart is one of training and worldview:

“We look at secularism, postmodernism, Marxism… what does it mean to live according to God’s design? What does it mean to be human? How do we allow our worldview to inform our choices?”

Listen as Neil and Aaron explore a number of topics under the worldview umbrella:

• Same-sex marriage – “Christians have an opportunity and a responsibility to affirm the rational grounding for traditional marriage and to live it out.”

• The equipping of pastors to speak to relevant cultural issues.

• Should Christians keep up with current events and trends?

• Common Core – “We ought to have a philosophy of education. What is education for? What is it about? Common Core de-emphasizes classical literature and emphasizes non-fiction. We ought to prepare students for life. We really want to engage and … start a dialogue.” Aaron shares that the goal of Summit is to train their students with the ability to “engage in conversation and think critically using Scripture as a foundation.”

• The responsibility of parents to equip their children

• A true definition of tolerance – Tolerance means “agree to disagree.” We use that word today to mean “Agree with me, and if you don’t, you need to be quiet.”

• Abortion – Aaron calls us to pray for those who support abortion. “They need an encounter with Jesus.” While legislation is an important way to protect the unborn, we need to pray for God to change people’s hearts first, and legislation will follow.

• Christians and politics
