How do we engage in today’s controversies while maintaining a gospel-centered vision?  We live in an either-or world that often makes us choose between opposing extremes. Jo Rathmanner welcomes pastor Insoo Kim, who co-authored the book Both-And: Living the Christ-Centered Life in an Either-Or World.  We learn how to deepen our walk with Jesus while engaging in a world of tension.

Jo asks how we can apply our faith in the midst of dark headlines & all of the suffering in the world.

Highlight: Faith applied

“There are areas in our lives we try to keep Jesus at an arm’s length away…we need to go to Him with our arms wide open”. – Insoo Kim

Pastor Kim details 7 guiding questions to set us on a path to Both-And Christianity:

What is our identity?
What Is our community?
What is our Concrern?
What is our method?
What is our ethic?
What is our expectation?
What is our calling?

It seems that the desire for diversity & unity are at odds, so how can we have both in our churches? Pastor Kim notes the way Jesus expressed his ministry in Luke  4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, Because he has anointed me To proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for prisoners And recovery of sight for the blind, To set the oppressed free, To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

God cares about us having a holistic view of the gospel.

Pastor Kim reminds us we have a great purpose for which we were created. When we look back on a life following him, we will see the remarkable power of at the intersection of God’s story and our part of that story. As a part of walking that path, we should be asking God, “How can I best represent you?”
