This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to this country and changing the American music scene. In the midst of the pop music culture was producer Ken Mansfield who represented Apple Records in the US. His journey through the music industry and eventually to faith in Christ is told in his book The Beatles, the Bible, and Bodega Bay.

Ken was playing in a folk band when he was discovered by music producers. “I had no idea I would end up in the music business…it just evolved.” Ken eventually started working at Capitol Records and rubbed elbows with artists including Stan Kenton, Peggy Lee, Andy Williams, David Cassidy, Judy Garland, The Beach Boys, and The Band. Eventually he became the US manager for the Beatles, and that caused his career to explode.

“None of us really had any idea what was happening during that time. I personally thought they were gonna be really famous for a while and then fade away like every other band… but we had no concept that it would have something to do with my career. I was just kind of swept up in it.”

He wrote The Beatles, the Bible, and Bodega Bay as a way to process his career and his faith journey. Ken says, “I was not writing a book” when he wrote down these conversations with God, but he was approached by a publisher and decided to share his story. He calls God’s process “masterful.” We can look back over worldly accomplishments, failures, brokenness and redemption, and see God’s hand on it all working for our good. Now, Ken is committed to spreading that hope. “My heart is to reach people with the message of the Lord.”
